One Injured In Waupun Structure Fire

2/8/17 – Fire heavily damaged a home in the city of Waupun yesterday. Crews were dispatched to 151 Olmstead Street around 6:10am. Chief BJ Demaa says upon arrival, smoke and flames were visible from a kitchen window on the first floor. Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the flames in about a half hour, containing damage to the kitchen and an adjoining dining room. Officials remained on scene for a couple hours to make sure the fire did not extend into the walls. An occupant of the home, Bill Purcell, was transported to Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital in Milwaukee with undisclosed injuries. The home, owned by Kristin Purcell, is uninhabitable after sustaining smoke, fire and water damage. Agencies assisting at the scene included fire departments from Alto and Brandon-Fairwater, the Waupun Police Department, Waupun Utilities, and Alliant Energy.  The blaze remains under investigation.  Damage is estimated at between $55-thousand-and-$65-thousand dollars.
