2/3/17 – No injuries were reported after a pickup truck broke through the ice in southern Green Lake County. The incident happened around 7:30am yesterday morning in the Kingston Millpond, which is located six miles west of the city of Markesan. There were two people inside the vehicle at the time of the incident and both made it to shore by the time authorities arrived on scene. Neither the 53-year-old Madison man driving the truck nor the 26-year-old Pardeeville man in the passenger seat required treatment. Sheriff Mark Podoll says the accident happened in about five feet of water in a section of the millpond where a river channel had recently frozen over. Podoll says “ice is never completely safe and this winter has been a challenge [because] of inconsistent temperatures and periodic bouts of rain making ice conditions difficult at best.” The Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Kingston First Responders, Dalton First Responders, the Markesan Fire Department, Princeton Water Rescue and Markesan Emergency Medical Services.
