National Walking Day Inspires Students And Walking Groups

(Beaver Dam) Despite the cold weather on Wednesday, the Washington Elementary School in Beaver Dam launched their inaugural Walking School Bus on National Walking Day. A walking school bus is a group of children walking to school with one or more adults. Students from Washington Elementary met with adult volunteer chaperones on Wednesday at a designated location and walked to school along a pedestrian walk path. School official say they will continue this weekly Walking School Bus through mid-May. National Walking Day was also used to launch several Walking Moai groups which is in partnership with the Dodge County Blue Zones Project. The community-led, well-being improvement initiative is designed to make healthy choices easier through permanent changes to environment, policy, and social networks. To learn more or to find an upcoming Walking Moai visit the Blue Zones Project website at www.dodgecounty.bluezonesprojects.com or call 920-212-8511.
