Mississippi Man Jailed For Fatal Crash Near Randolph

(Randolph) In Columbia County court, a Mississippi man was sentenced Monday to 60 days in jail for a fatal crash in the Town of Randolph in August of 2017. Patrick Craft pled no contest in October to Homicide By Negligent Use of a Vehicle. Christine Novak of Lake Geneva died from her injuries sustained in the semi-versus-van accident. The 40-year-old Novak was driving a van pulling a camper that was northbound on Highway 73. She was struck by a truck operated by Craft that was eastbound on County Highway E that had failed to stop at the stop sign. There were seven children in the van; one sustained serious injuries while three had minor injuries. Both Craft and Novak were trapped inside their vehicles and the jaws of life were needed to remove them. In addition to two months in jail with work release, the 41-year-old Craft was also placed on probation for four years.
