Michael Anthony Hartl was born on March 5, 1932 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin to the late Michael J. and Clara (Neis) Hartl.  After graduating from Beaver Dam High School, Mike served in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1956.   On July 9, 1960, he was united in marriage with Rosemary Schinderle at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mayville.  Together they owned and operated Mayville Liquor from 1961 to 1965.  Mike also worked in the engineering department for Wisconsin Bell and Ameritech from 1956 to 1994.  He was an active member of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church where he served as an usher, worked as a Bingo caller, and volunteered at funeral luncheons and church festivals.  Mike also volunteered at Hillside Manor, Beaver Dam Hospital, and Meals-On-Wheels.  Mike’s inquisitive mind led him to teach himself how to rebuild player pianos and he rebuilt one for each of his daughters.  Mike took meticulous care of his house and yard and he enjoyed spending winters in Arizona.

Survivors include his three daughters, Marie (Michael) Johnson of Brookfield, Patricia (Craig) Quilling of Apple Valley, MN, and Kathleen Hartl of West Allis; four grandchildren, Megan Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Steven Chamberland, and Adrian Quilling; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  Mike was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Rosemary; three sisters, Frances Radke, Anna Biel, and Agnes Hafenstein; and three brothers-in-law, Loren Radke, Myron Biel and Lester Hafenstein.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Michael Hartl’s name to Building From Our Belief – Capital Campaign (St. Katharine Drexel’s church remodeling fund).  The family would like to thank Brookdale Assisted Living, and Serenity Hospice, for the support they provided to Dad.
