Memorial Day Ceremony Returns To Oakwood Cemetery On Monday

(Beaver Dam) Communities around the nation and right here in Dodge County will be observing Memorial Day Monday with a variety of parade’s and ceremonies. In Beaver Dam, a ceremony will be held at Veterans Memorial Park at Oakwood Cemetery. Lois Levenhagen, with the American Legion and a member of the Beaver Dam Memorial Committee, explains who this year’s guest speaker will be. Commander Mike Burt is a 15 year army veteran which included deployments to Operations Desert Storm in 1991 and Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004 to 2005. Burt is also a 10 year member of DePere #139 American Legion, 3rd Vice Commander for the 8th District and chairman on the Camp American Legion Committee. The service will include a reading of the names of Veterans who have passed away in the year, musical performances by the Beaver Dam High School Marching Band and Saint Katherine Drexel Marching Band, and possibly a flyover. During yesterday’s appearance on WBEV’s Community Comment, Veterans of Foreign Wars member Paul Lauth says the ceremony is a time to honor those who have given their lives for our country. Benches will be available at the site but committee members are encouraging the public to bring lawn chairs and blankets. The ceremony is scheduled to start at 10:15am and will be broadcasted live on 1430 WBEV.
