4/25/17 – The Mayville Police and Fire Commission has named an Acting Police Chief for the city. Captain Ryan Vossekuil will serve as interim chief while the commission searches for someone to fill the position permanently. Vossekuil, who has been with the department just shy of 15 years, says he is honored and humbled to be chosen. Vossekuil says that the department has gone through difficult times of the last several months and is ready to move forward. Adding that he is honored to led them. The position was opened when former Police Chief Chris MacNeill resigned last month amidst allegations after 17 years with the department. MacNeill reportedly altered documents in 2011 to help the son of a Mayville police officer get into the army. Vossekuil says the department has been taking each day one day at a time and credits the hard work of the departments officers over the difficult months. He says that once a new police chief is appointed the department will continue to focus on community centered policing. Applications for a new police chief must be submitted by May 31. PFC Chair Dan Bell says there is no specific time table related to hiring someone for the position permanently. Bell says that he is confident in Vossekuil and feels that he is the best person for the position of acting chief.
