Vossekuil Accepts Police Chief Contract

10/30/17 – The City of Mayville has a new police chief. Captain Ryan Vossekuil, who had been serving as interim since April, accepted an offer from the common council Monday night to helm the department permanently. The contract includes a salary base of $73,400 dollars and waives a 12-month probationary period that was included in the city’s first offer to the 15-year veteran of the department. Mayor Rob Boelk says that he and Vossekuil had a conversation and hashed out the best thing for Mayville, which was to get this behind us and move forward. Vossekuil says it is a great honor and privilege to be named chief. He says it has been a long and challenging process but he is excited going forward. The offer will include sending Vossekuil to police chief training and, after one years’ time with successful completion of the training period, the council will hold a review on July 1st. The hire was made retroactive to April 25. Vossekuil will be sworn in on November 9 at 6pm at city hall. The vacancy was created when former Chief Chris MacNeill resigned in March amidst allegations that he altered documents in 2011 to get the son of a former Mayville police officer in the army.
