Mayville Man Convicted Of Child Assault

(Mayville) A Mayville man was convicted on child molestation charges on Wednesday. Benjamin Marx changed his previous plea of “not guilty by reason of mental defect.” He entered a “no contest” plea to felony charges of First Degree Sexual Assault of a Child Under the Age of 12 and Child Sexual Exploitation. Two additional felony counts were dismissed but read into the record. Explicit photos dating back to 2016 where uncovered by a spouse on a shared computer. Marx attempted to erase the pictures and break his electronic devices after he was found out but a digital forensic analyst with the state Justice Department was able to recover the data. The 30-year-old did not admit his actions to investigators but did concede that the person in the photos “looks like” him. Marx faces a combined maximum of up to 165 years in prison. A pre-sentencing investigation was ordered and Marx is due back in court on May 6.
