(Mayville) A recent ruling by a Dodge County judge will send back the state’s decision to allow for the merger of two municipalities that neighbor the city of Mayville. Judge Joseph Sciascia denied the Department of Administration’s decision to allow the town of Williamstown to attach to the village of Kekoskee. The state accepted the merger request last fall, and since then, Mayville has filed an appeal with the Dodge County Circuit Court. City officials say the move will stunt Mayville’s growth and affect other areas such as school district population and transportation. During the ruling, Sciascia said he believes state law does not permit Williamstown to just vanish with a boundary agreement between the two municipalities. The parties involved did agree to stay the judge’s decision until the case is reviewed further by an appeals court. The Mayville Common Council will discuss the matter in closed session during a special council meeting on Monday.
