(Madison) On April 3rd, Governor Scott Walker signed Assembly Bill 924 into law, increasing the state’s investment in the Wisconsin Shares program. This bill, authored by Representative Mark Born, will increase the state’s spending on child care subsidies by five percent annually. Born says this investment is a continuation of our commitment to solving workforce problems that many businesses across our state are facing. The Beaver Dam Republican says the impact of this bill could affect more than just the care of Wisconsin’s children. He says research shows that children who receive high quality child care are more prepared when they enter school with better math, language, and social skills. Beaver Dam’s own Renae Henning, Director of Community Care Preschool and Child Care, was also present at the signing. Henning played an important role assisting the process of this bill, including testifying before the State Joint Committee on Finance. The passing of this bill will align the Wisconsin Shares program rates with the current market rates for child care.
