1/31/17 – A local military organization has a new name. On WBEV’s Community Comment program last week, representatives from AMVETS Post 33 announced they recently named their chapter after charter member Bob Frankenstein. AMVET Chuck Staab says many chapters have been renamed after an influential person in recent years and claims Frankenstein was the logical choice as the top charter member. Staab says changing the name to the ‘Robert Frankenstein AMVETS Post 33’ was simple as it only required notifying the national chapter, which gave its approval. The AMVETS was founded in 1943 for veterans who never served overseas during wartime and thus were not eligible for the American Legion or VFW. The local chapter is holding a spaghetti feed fundraiser at John’s Bar on Saturday. Proceeds will benefit a variety of area organizations.
