3/18/17 – The First Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam is inviting the community to a heroin awareness seminar. The event is organized by the Congregational Health Ministry Team at the church and will feature local speakers that are campaigning against the use of heroin and other opiates in the Beaver Dam area. Bob Gianet, who is the Parish Nurse at First Lutheran, says that the heroin epidemic is astounding even in small communities like Beaver Dam and rural counties like Dodge County. The event came about after members of the Health Ministry Team attended a presentation by Beaver Dam Police Officer Megan Scott on drug and heroin issues. Gianet says Scott will be one of several speakers at the seminar. Joining her is Jeff Margenau of the Community Awareness Recovery Environment (C.A.R.E.) for Dodge County, and a parent who will tell her story about how heroin affected her and her family. The seminar will be on March 25th starting at 9:00am and goes until noon. It will take place at First Lutheran Church in Beaver dam with handouts and refreshments being offered in the morning.
