Lightning Strike May Be Cause of Beaver Dam Fire

7/7/17 – A possible lightning strike may be the cause of a structure fire in Beaver Dam Thursday night. The call was reported around 11pm to the Michael Roberts residence at 226 Park Avenue. Fire Captain Paul Hartl says when units arrived, smoke was visible from the attic of the home. Crews attacked the fire with two hose lines and their ladder truck was used to ventilate the roof. The fire was confined to the attic, which sustained significant damage. There was considerable water and smoke damage throughout the rest of the home. The occupants evacuated safely and there were no injuries; a dog and two cats were also rescued.  The home is uninhabitable and the occupants will be staying with family. There is no damage estimate at this time. Beaver Dam was assisted by departments from Juneau, Horicon, Fox Lake, Hustisford and Watertown along with Alliant Energy. The scene was cleared after three hours. The cause of the fire is under routine investigation by the Beaver Dam Police and Fire departments.
