6/29/17 – Legislative leaders say their talks on a new state budget are “back on track,” after Senate leaders walked out of a negotiation session on Tuesday. Majority Republicans still have disagreements about a number of items in the two year, 76-billion-dollar package — and the biggest sticking point is how to pay for highway construction. But Senate leader Scott Fitzgerald says the momentum is at least moving forward after Governor Scott Walker met Wednesday with his party’s top lawmakers. Walker now says it might be mid July before the new budget is finalized. The new budget is supposed to take effect Saturday, but spending will continue at current levels until a new package is adopted.
