Juneau City Attorney: Strip Club Ordinance Not Valid

(Juneau) City officials in Juneau have run into another roadblock in their apparent effort to discourage the operation of a strip club on the downtown square. On a split vote, the city council this week approved a new liquor license agent for the Solomon strip club, which recently opened in the former Silk Exotic building. Some elected officials thought the change of agent for a liquor license would be enough of a lapse in operations for an ordinance to take effect prohibiting downtown strip clubs but that was not the case. City attorney Nathan Geis was asked to research a second recently discovered ordinance on the books that only allows for either the sale of alcohol or exotic dancing. Geis tells us after research, he learned that Judge Andrew Bissonnette ruled that the ordinance was invalid one year after it was adopted in 2001.
