(Horicon) The city of Horicon is getting closer to earning its Blue Zones designation. During a recent Common Council meeting, Council President Donald Miller provided an update on their progress. He says several of the items that are already checked off include adopting a complete streets policy as well as an implementation plan. Miller says city government is working with school district to hammer out details for a safe walking route. Other items that the city is targeting for completion are working on a master parking plan, developing a neighborhood and school slow-zone as well as identifying a plan around the heritage features. Miller says the goal is to have everything completed by December of this year. The Blue Zones Project, sponsored by the Beaver Dam Community Hospital, is a community-led well-being improvement initiative designed to make healthy choices easier through permanent changes to environment, policy, and social networks.
