Horicon Marsh Bird Festival Underway

(Horicon) Bird watchers from throughout the country will descend on Dodge County this weekend.  The Horicon Marsh Bird Club is hosting its annual ‘Bird Festival.’  Events kick-off today and run through Monday and include bus and boat trips along with guided hikes for both experts and beginners.

This year’s featured speaker is the Director of the International Owl Center in Minnesota, Karla Bloem. She will provide an in-depth vocal study on Great Horned Owls. Bloem’s presentation will be on Saturday at 1:15pm and is free to attend.

Jeff Bahls with the Horicon Marsh Bird Club says a popular activity is returning this weekend. Bird Banding will begin at 6:30am on both Saturday and Sunday and run through 11am. A large net is set-up and birds are collected for identification and banding to track their migration.

Some events require pre-registration.  That can be done online at www.horiconmarshbirdclub.com.
