(Beaver Dam) The public is invited to a rare open house this week offering an inside look at a local non-profit. Green Valley Enterprises is hosting a Business After Hours event open to residents for their 50th anniversary. The Beaver Dam-based organization is a multi-faceted agency that works with hundreds of families offering, among other things, prevocational training and other work-related services. Board member John Kotek says 50-years-ago he was working at the Beaver Dam High School with young individuals with special needs and began wondering what would happen to them after high school. Kotek says soon after individuals from nine different communities in Dodge County came forward with similar concerns. During a recent appearance on WBEV’s Community Comment, Kotek told us the organization existed as a sheltered workshop in its early days before expanding their services. He says the young adults were not ready to enter into a local community workforce but could work with the right guidance. Kotek revealed that Fond du Lac County was used as a model, assisting the Beaver Dam non-profit group as they started to grow. At Wednesday’s open house, visitors will be able to take facility tours, enjoy refreshments, and register to win a hand-made king-size quilt or $250 cash prize. The first 100 people will receive a 50th anniversary Green Valley coffee mug. The open house is this Wednesday from 5pm to 7pm at the facility at 1223 Madison Street in Beaver Dam. Those interested in attending are asked to RSVP beforehand by calling the Beaver Dam Chamber at 920-887-8879.
