Green Lake County Authorities Rescue Disoriented Kayakers

(Markesan) The Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office rescued two disoriented kayakers over the weekend. According to a press release issued Tuesday, authorities were dispatched at 3:21pm Saturday to the Grand River Wildlife area, which authorities call (quote) “vast, with extensive water and thick cover.” A 26-year-old Fox Lake woman and a 55-year-old Markesan woman were in communication with the Green Lake County Communication Center via cell phone. With assistance from emergency responders from around the region, a rescue staging area was set-up on Grand River Road, where deputies sounded a siren intended for the victims to hear. After less than an hour of searching, the county’s drone team spotted the victims from the air. A route was then taken by a tracked utility vehicle and the victims were removed from the marsh. The two were not injured and their kayaks were also recovered. The Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office received assistance from the Green Lake County Drone Team, Princeton Fire Rescue, the Markesan and Marquette fire departments, Markesan EMS, and the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office.
