Glewen Wants To Bring Baseball Diamonds To Beaver Dam

7/31/17 – Beaver Dam Mayor Becky Glewen says the city should build full-sized baseball diamonds to enhance quality of life and attract more families and visitors. There is a regulation diamond at the high school but its needed for seasonal athletics. Glewen told us on WBEVs Community Comment last week that Beaver Dam is perfectly situated to draw from the greater Milwaukee or Madison areas to host baseball tournaments. She says that brings families to the cities restaurants and hotels. During the program, a caller pointed out that the current little league diamonds are in disrepair and he said that if the city cannot take care of what it already has how can it take care of new baseball fields. Glewen says she is looking to establish a “friends of the parks” group that would help clear weeds and beautify the landscape. She says the plan would be to form a “friend’s committee” that would focus on park upkeep and help alleviate the heavy work load of the Parks Department. Glewen says any new developments would not come until the 2018 season.
