Fox Lake Man Sentenced For Theft At Coyote Gas

(Beaver Dam) A Fox Lake man who stole money from Coyote Gas and Liquor in Beaver Dam after threatening violence on the clerk was given seven months in jail Tuesday. In May of last year, Donald McRae was previously sentenced to nine months in jail with an opportunity to avoid the sentence, and a felony record, if he completed the county’s Treatment Alternative and Diversion program for drug offenders. In December, Dodge County Judge Joseph Sciascia determined that the 38-year-old had relapsed and ordered that a sentencing hearing be held on his deferred felony charge of Theft of Movable Property. McRae bought a bag of chips in the North Spring Street store in April of 2017. When the clerk opened the register, he began punching with a closed fist in the direction of the clerk’s chest, saying “get away or I’ll start shooting.” McRae fled with around $300. He was apprehended ten hours later after the suspect’s parents saw his picture posted on social media and alerted authorities. His parents said that McRae has a drug problem and told investigators where he got his drugs. An officer parked nearby and after about an hour spotted his vehicle and conducted a high-risk traffic stop.  McRae admitted to police that he took money from Coyote and said that he did not initially intend to commit the crime instead “it just happened.” He did express regret saying that it was a poor decision made while he was drunk and high and said at the time that the arrest was what he needed. McRae was given work release privileges while serving his sentence.
