(Beaver Dam) A Fox Lake man was arraigned Wednesday on charges related to a police officer assault. Trevell Cowan stood mute and the court entered a not guilty plea on his behalf to one felony count of Battery to Law Enforcement along with misdemeanor Obstruction and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Beaver Dam Police attempted to stop Cowan’s vehicle on North Center Street in November for failure to stop at a stop sign but he reportedly fled at a high rate of speed. Officers found his vehicle a few blocks away up over the curb, on the sidewalk and front yard of a residence at Beaver Street and Maple Avenue. After refusing orders to stay in the car, the 27-year-old allegedly resisted arrest and started punching the officer in the face. Cowan made contact with the officer multiple times resulting in a bloody nose. He reportedly attempted to flee on foot but was subdued with a Taser gun. Drug paraphernalia and fake urine were apparently found inside his vehicle. As he was being taken into custody, Cowan allegedly told the officer that he was “sorry” for punching him saying that he only did it because he wanted to get away. The felony Battery to Law Enforcement charge carries a maximum sentence of six years in prison upon conviction.
