(Fox Lake) Fox Lake employees will now receive money if they decline the city’s insurance. A resolution adopted by the common council last night calls for city employees to receive $100 per pay period, or $2,400 per year, if they do not take the city’s health plan. Mayor Tom Bednarek says one employee approached him about receiving compensation since he would bypass the city’s insurance in favor of his wife’s plan. Bednarek heard no objections to the policy change from elected officials and believes it is fair to employees while saving the city $15,000-$16,000 per participating worker per year. He says this practice is common among other municipalities and school districts.
