Former WCI Staffer Arraigned On Assault, Smuggling Charges

(Waupun) A former Waupun Correctional Officer was arraigned Wednesday on charges that she had inappropriate contact with an inmate. Melissa Fiedler entered a not guilty plea to felony counts of Second Degree Sexual Assault by Correctional Staff and Delivering Illegal Articles to an Inmate. In December of 2016, correctional officers were made aware that a prisoner was in possession of a cell phone. The phone reportedly contained several sexually explicit texts from a number reportedly belonging to Fiedler. Prosecutors say another inmate saw Fiedler engaging in sexual acts with the prisoner.  When questioned, the 24-year-old initially denied the accusations but later allegedly admitted she texted the inmate. If convicted, Fiedler faces over 43 years in prison.
