Former Waupun Guard Jailed for Smuggling In Cell Phone

(Waupun) A former Waupun Correctional prison guard will spend 90 days in jail for smuggling contraband into the facility. Melissa Fiedler pled guilty Tuesday to a felony count of Delivering Illegal Articles to an Inmate. The 24-year-old also entered into a deferred prosecution agreement on a felony count of Second Degree Sexual Assault by Correctional Staff. That means she will avoid a record as a sex offender if she stays out of trouble while on probation for two years. In December of 2016, correctional officers were made aware that a prisoner was in possession of a cell phone. The phone contained several sexually explicit texts with an inmate from a number belonging to Fiedler. Prosecutors contended that another inmate saw Fiedler engaging in sexual acts with the prisoner. When questioned, she initially denied the accusations but later admitted that she texted the inmate.
