Former Nurse Arraigned For Waupun Prison Smuggling

8/10/17 – A former nurse at the Waupun Correctional Institution was arraigned yesterday for smuggling illegal contraband to an inmate. Amy Gunderson of Waupun entered a not guilty plea to one felony count of Delivering Illegal Articles to an Inmate. Staff at the facility in December noticed an inmate in possession of sexually explicit letters allegedly from Gunderson who worked as a nurse for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections at the time. The inmate told investigators that he and Gunderson began a relationship a year prior and were discussing an escape plan along with bringing in a cell-phone and marijuana. The inmate reported that Gunderson had brought other items in for him but the only one he would specify was lotion. Authorities contacted the 41-year-old who reportedly admitted to passing letters and pictures to the inmate but denied bringing in the lotion. If convicted, Gunderson faces up to three-and-a-half years in prison.
