Fond du Lac County Joins Opioid Lawsuit, Dodge County Considering

11/2/17 – The Fond du Lac County Board this week voted unanimously to join a class action lawsuit. The purpose of the suit is to recoup some of the costs the county has incurred from the increase in services caused by the opioid epidemic. Supervisor Marty Ryan had questions about how much staff time would be tied up gathering information lawyers need for the suit. County Executive Al Buechel says it cost the county money to treat opioid addiction and for the care of children who are displaced because of opioid addiction. A similar bill was adopted unanimously last month in Columbia County. The Dodge County Board’s Executive Committee began discussing the lawsuit last month. Committee members had questions and Dodge County Corporation Counsel Kim Nass will return at their meeting next week with answers. The resolution could come to the full Dodge County Board for a vote by years end.
