Fire Officials Continue To Discuss Short, Long Term Needs

4/10/17 – The Beaver Dam Fire Department discussed short terms needs for additional staffing and long term plans for a possible north side satellite station at the most recent Police and Fire Commission meeting. Chief Alan Mannel says staffing remains a priority and the department could use the staffing immediately. Mannel says that they would have to come up with a funding mechanism to pay the extra staff with one option he would like to see considered being a referendum. Currently the department has four to five firefighter/paramedics on duty at any given time but Mannel wants that number at six, adding two per shift. A proposed new facility would target the Highway 151 and County Highway B corridor. Mannel says the goal of the second station would be three workers per shift which would get another ambulance on the street. Both concepts are still in the early stages.
