Fire Chief Details Controlled Burn Plan At Village Glen Apartments

(Beaver Dam) Authorities gave a briefing Monday concerning their plans for a controlled burn at Village Glen Apartments were a blast at 109 Knaup Drive killed one person last week. Beaver Dam Fire Chief Alan Mannel says no accelerants will be used during the controlled burn. He says the plan is to light the building on both ends and let it burn towards the middle; there will be no suppression efforts. Mannel says that he has been advised to let it burn as long and as hot as possible because heat degrades the explosive material. Mannel says a methodical approach has been taking to ensure the safety of the buildings located around 109. The ash will be tested for unknown chemicals. People wishing to assist those affected by the explosion are encouraged to drop off any monetary donations at any Horicon Bank location in Dodge County and can be addressed to the Dodge County COAD / Beaver Dam Apartments. Any non-monetary donations should be dropped off at Saint Vincent DePaul or American National Bank. As of yesterday, over $4,000 dollars has been donated.
