Federal Judge Throws Out Lawsuit Against Menards

10/6/17 – A federal judge has thrown out a lawsuit claiming that Menards’ customers were deceived about the size of the four by four wood boards they buy. District Judge Edmond Chang has dismissed a potential class action lawsuit against the Eau Claire home improvement giant, which said the boards should be listed as three and a half by three and a half inches. Chang says the U-S Commerce Department recognizes that exact wood sizes vary due to a number of factors — and the government’s endorsement of it supports the argument that Menards did not deceive customers. Also, he said four by fours do not use the word “inches” in their name. The plaintiffs have not commented on the judge’s ruling, but Menards praised the ruling in what it called a “frivolous lawsuit.”
