6/1/17 – An explosion and fire has destroyed the Didion Milling plant in Cambria. It happened around 11pm Wednesday night at the Columbia County facility. At least one person was killed, eleven employees were injured and two are unaccounted for. Village President Glen Williams says there was a power outage after an initial blast, and a second and smaller explosion happened about 20 minutes later — and as of 4:30 a-m, the fire has been contained as Williams called the facility a “three or four story building that doesn’t exist anymore.” The village was not evacuated, as sheriff’s officials referred affected residents to a shelter at a highway shop. Meanwhile, school officials have cancelled classes for today. A graduation ceremony planned for tomorrow is in question as school officials say a determination will have to be made as to the exact location.
