Memorial Day Ceremony in Beaver Dam
May 28 @ 10:15 AM - 1:00 PM
Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, remembering, honoring and commemorates the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. With that said, the community of Beaver Dam, and surrounding area are invited to the Memorial Day Ceremony at the Veterans Memorial Park, located at the Oakwood Cemetery on Hwy 33 just outside of town starting at 10:15 am sharp on Monday, May 28th . WBEV will be broadcasting a live feed for the ceremony for those who are unable to attend in person.
The local Funeral Homes have proved the names of the area Veterans who have died since last years’ Memorial Day to give them special honor at this year’s ceremony.
The Beaver Dam High School and St Katharine Drexel Bands will be playing patriotic music to enhance the ceremony. All local Veterans organizations will be present along with Beaver Dam Police Dept Honor Guard and the Knights of Columbus. Local Boy and Girl Scouts will also be helping at the cemetery with seating and parking.
Club will be handing out small flags to everyone that is present at the cemetery.
Some seating will be provided but it’s advisable to bring along a lawn chair or blanket for seating on the grass.
In case of inclement weather listen to WBEV and a decision will be made by 8:30 am to move the ceremony to the Veterans Center at 300 Beichl Ave, Beaver Dam.
