(Oakfield) The driver of a semi-truck was seriously injured Friday night after his rig went off a railroad overpass near Oakfield. Paul Hebert was eastbound on Fond du Lac County Road F, around Highway 175 in the Town of Byron, when his trailer drifted off the south shoulder, over the top of the bridge guardrail, and went airborne before landing onto Canadian National railroad tracks about 30 feet below. The cause of the accident remains under investigation, but alcohol is not believed to be a factor. While still on scene about 90 minutes later, at 10pm, the Oakfield Fire Department witnessed a second accident. Marion Shafer stopped his vehicle on County Road F at Hickory Road and exited to speak with firefighters. Shafer accidentally left his gear in “reverse” and was run over by his own vehicle, specifically the driver’s side door and front tire. Both Hebert and Shafer were transported with serious injuries to St. Agnes Hospital.
