3/1/17 – The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) will begin reconstruction of Highways 16 and 60 through downtown Columbus this coming Monday. DOT officials say issues with access to local business will be handled using the same methods used when Highway 33 was redone in Beaver Dam. The state is planning to provide business-front access along the side of James Street with a safety fence between the work zone and sidewalk. Temporary street lighting will be provided. Stage one work between River Road and Ludington Street will be completed one side at a time to allow for some local vehicle traffic. Sidewalk detour signs will be provided during the entire nine-month project and the public is encouraged to use city-owned parking lots during the reconstruction.
