(Juneau) The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office will be hiring community officers to help alleviate the heavy work load for detectives and free up time for staff. Sheriff Dale Schmidt highlighted the move as a 2018 performance objective which serves as a guideline for his employees while setting expectations for the public. Schmidt says his department will be hiring three community service officers. He says they will have their own car to drive in and handle minor complaints such as animal related calls. Schmidt says they will be able to assist in traffic control and road side service. The intern positions will go through a field training program that will be geared towards their duties and responsibilities. Schmidt says adding the community service officers will come at a low budget cost.
