5/15/17 – The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office and several local police departments have been awarded a Click it or Ticket Task Force Grant from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. Police departments in Beaver Dam, Horicon, Lomira and Mayville will also be participating. Sheriff’s Lieutenant Chad Enright says buckling up protects those in a motor vehicle from being thrown around violently inside a vehicle or ejected during a crash. He calls it “the single most important step you can take to protect yourself every time you travel.” Enright says Click It or Ticket is more than a slogan and the goal is not to write more tickets; it’s about preventing injuries and saving lives through enforcement, education and by encouraging everyone to buckle up every day, every trip.” The state’s safety belt usage rate of 88.4 percent is the highest ever. However, nearly half of the drivers and passengers killed in Wisconsin traffic crashes last year were not wearing safety belts. In addition, last year there were over 68,500 convictions for failure to fasten a seat belt.
