Dodge County Parks Department Get DNR Tree Grant

(Juneau) The Dodge County Parks Department has been awarded a state grant to help improve several area parks. The $5000 Department of Natural Resources Urban Forestry Grant will be used for tree plantings and adding to the current tree inventory at Derge County Park. In addition, a gravel bed nursery will be constructed at Harnischfeger Park which will is expected to serve as cost-effective way to increase the number of tree plantings. Dodge County Parks Crew Leader and Forestry Grant Coordinator Mike Simons says the DNR’s expertise and funding support has been fundamental in improving the tree resources and maintenance needs throughout the park system. The Urban Forestry Grant program has assisted with planting 46 trees and creating an inventory of over 800 trees in the past two years at Astico and Harnischfeger Parks. Simons says the gravel bed nursery will be reused annually and will be a major resource in the counties forestry program.
