Dodge County Denied Disaster Funding For Individuals From Tornados

(Dodge County) Dodge County has learned that they will not be eligible for federal disaster funding for individual assistance. The denial was based off results from a September damage assessment undertaken by FEMA officials following severe summer storms. Dodge County Emergency Management Director Amy Nehls says while the area had homes that fit the criteria for federal aid, the majority of the destruction was caused by straight line winds and tornados and most of the damage was covered by insurance. The decision comes a month after the county learned that they would not be eligible for disaster funding for municipal infrastructure. Nehls says the county is eligible for Economic Injury Disaster Loans through the Small Business Administration (SBA). Small businesses, agricultural cooperatives and most non-profit organizations can apply online at DisasterLoan.sba.gov. Nehls says the state has thirty days to appeal the individual assistance denial and that her department will work with Wisconsin Emergency Management to determine if there are any next steps in this process.
