10/16/17 – Four students in a local youth development and mentoring program will be taking their talents international. Dodge County-area 4-H members Mathew Gunst, Dawson Nickels, Kylie Nickels, and Ben Buske recently won first place at the National Dairy Cattle Judging Contest at the World Diary Expo in Madison. As a result, the group will be heading to Scotland to compete in the Royal Highland Show. Dodge County UW Extension 4-H Youth Development Educator Maria Witzel says the youth talked their way to the top spot. She told us last week on WBEV’s Community Comment that the students were able to proficiently express why they judged the cattle the way they did. Witzel says these opportunities come few and far between and is a great accomplishment from everyone involved. The youth will travel to Scotland in June.
