Deadline Today For Those Interested In Columbus Aldermanic Vacancy

(Columbus) Columbus residents in the city’s Third Aldermanic District have until the close of business today (Friday 7/13) to submit a letter of interest to fill the vacant common council seat. The opening was created by the unexpected resignation of Matt Kenney last month.  Kenney, whose current term on the council was set to expire next spring, tells us that he has been moving through the process of selling his home and saw now as the best time to take this step. A resident of Columbus for the last three years, Kenney will be moving back to the Madison-area where he hopes to continue to be active within his community. To be eligible to serve, applicants must be over 18 years of age and live in the third aldermanic district. Those interested should write a letter of interest describing their qualifications and explain why they wish to be appointed. The council will review the letters at next Tuesday’s Committee of the Whole meeting. Applicants are encouraged to attend the meeting and participate in the discussion; it will be held in council chambers at City Hall following the 6:30pm common council meeting. Those hoping to serve longer than April of next year would need run for the seat by submitting nomination papers before the deadline in the first week of January.

All letters should be mailed or delivered to City Clerk Megan Meyer at City Hall, 105 North Dickason Boulevard, Columbus, Wisconsin 53925. Deadline for submission is close of business on July 13. Letters may also be emailed to mmeyer@columbuswi.us.
