Conviction Deferred For Beaver Dam Man In Child Assault Case

(Beaver Dam) A Beaver Dam man was placed on probation for one year yesterday Tuesday for having an inappropriate relationship with a minor. Devan Elkins plead no contest to one felony count of Repeated Sexual Assault of the Same Child as well as two misdemeanor charges of Fourth Degree Sexual Assault. Elkins was placed on a deferred prosecution agreement, meaning he will avoid a felony record if he stays out of trouble while on probation. The offenses occurred over a seven-month period in 2015. Elkins, who was 21-years-old at the time, knew the victim through a younger sibling. Elkins initially told investigators that he was in a mindset to escape being an adult for a while and the relationship was a “friendship that got uncomfortably close” but denied contact. The 24-year-old later conceded that contact had taken place on approximately ten occasions. The victim, who came forward when she turned 18-years-old, says Elkins left her with deep emotional scars.
