6/24/17 – It was a record-setting year for the WBEV-WXRO Children’s Radiothon. The 27-hour marathon broadcast raised money for ten Dodge County-area non-profit agencies that work with kids. The fundraiser, that wrapped up Friday around 9:30am, brought-in $126,852.74… all of which will be going to the organizations. That number exceeds the previous record set in 2012 of just under $121,949. Last year’s total was $111,504. Over 20 years, the event has raised just over $1.8-million dollars. The on-air auction accounted for $21,875 of the total. Noel’s Angel Walk and Nate’s Lemonade Stand collected $7600. The News Guy In The Sky Kevin Haugen along with Vilay The Verizon Guy fished-in almost $4000 from the roof of the radio station. The Eagle Riders Motorcycle Ride raised $3200. The dessert auction raised $2500. The Bayside Bash brought in $1400. The Bids for Kids online auction contributed. Each year, the agencies that benefit from the Radiothon pair-up and compete to see who can contribute the most money to the final total with the winner receiving the coveted Dodge County Service Cup trophy. This year’s winning team was once again Green Valley Enterprises and ARC Dodge County who raised $6300, with the lions share coming from an Elvis fundraiser this spring. The final tally was also bolstered by an anonymous donation and a last-minute donation of $10-thousand dollars by Chuck and Randy Neuman. Karmazin says it’s all staying in the Dodge County-area. The ten organizations benefiting are People Against A Violent Environment, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dodge County and the Watertown Community, Green Valley Enterprises, YMCA of Dodge County, Clothes for Kids, the Watertown Family Center, ARC Dodge County, Community Care Preschool and Child Care, the Beaver Dam Area Arts Association and – new this year – Church Health Services.
