Columbus Sex Offender Facing Child Porn Possession Charges

(Columbus) Cash bond was set at $5000 Friday in Dodge County court for a convicted sex offender caught with illegal images of children. David Brickett is charged with two felony counts of Possession of Child Pornography. Officials with the state Justice Department Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force executed a search warrant on Wednesday at Brickett’s rural Columbus residence. Investigators allegedly uncovered images of prepubescent children on a computer that belongs to Brickett. According to the state’s Sex Offender Registry, the 52-year-old was convicted of Possessing Child Pornography in Alabama in 1995. In 2013, he was convicted in Adams County of three felony counts of Registered Sex Offender Intentionally Photographing a Minor Without Consent. As a condition of his probation, Brickett is required to report any websites he is registered with to the Sex Offender Registry Program, however authorities say he failed to do that. If convicted on the newest charges, Brickett faces up to 25 years in prison on each count. A judge will decide next week if there is enough evidence to order a trial.
