5/11/17 – Youth in the Beaver Dam area interested in playing football have an opportunity to sign up. Early registration for the 2017 Beaver Dam Youth Football season is underway. Player Safety Coach Kurt Gruenewold says that the 3rd and 4th grade program will be switching to flag instead of tackle. He adds that the youth football program heard that they would have more kids sign up if they switched to flag. Gruenewold adds that the program will still teach the fundamentals of football but the change was made in an effort to make the game safer. He notes that with football related injuries, especially collision injuries, becoming more prevalent they felt a change was needed. There will be a sign-up period tonight at 6pm to 7pm at the Beaver Dam High School cafeteria. Additional signups will take place on May 16 and May 22. The registration fee for 5th and 6th grade tackle is $100 for one participant or $75 if a second family member signs up. For 3rd and 4th grade flag, it will cost $50.
