Cambria Man Facing Eighth OWI Tries To Drink During Arrest

(Cambria) A Cambria man is facing charges of eighth offense Operating While Intoxicated following a single-vehicle weekend crash. Authorities in Columbia County responded to reports of a vehicle sideways in a ditch on State Highway 146, Near Shady Lane, in the Town of Fountain Prairie around 7:15pm Saturday. A caller to dispatch had given the driver a ride home. The driver’s name was Bob, he was not injured but the caller said “something was not right with him.” When deputies arrived on scene, Bob was reportedly back at the accident scene, after allegedly driving a second vehicle there. When deputies said that they were placing him under arrest, he reportedly reached inside the vehicle, grabbed an open liquor bottle and tried to drink it. Robert Koehler was identified as the driver of both vehicles. In addition to picking up his eighth OWI, the 56-year-old was also charged with Operating With Open Intoxicants and Failing To Maintain Control of his Vehicle.
