Brenda Murphy, Radiothon, Singing Eye Docs Win Big At Broadcaster Awards

(Beaver Dam) WBEV brought home 19 awards, including a half-dozen first place trophies, this weekend at the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association annual banquet in Madison. Brenda Murphy’s Idea Exchange was named the “Best Radio Show” in Wisconsin in a small market. The Children’s Radiothon was also singled out for having a “Significant Community Impact” after raising over $100-thousand dollars last year. The News Department took home the trophy for “Best News Writing,” in addition to “Best Spot News” for updates on the two separate fires at the Lakecrest Apartments last year and also for having the “Best Continuous Coverage” of an ongoing story for reports on the Didion Milling Explosion. And finally, last but not least, a duo introduced as the “perineal favorites of the Wisconsin Broadcaster’s Association,” in the category for “Best Client-Recorded Commercial,” the Signing Eye Doctors of Vita Park Eye Associates – Dr. Jay Wilkins and Dr. Tom Castillo – took home the top prize for their annual Christmas Carol Public Service Announcement. The Signing Eye Doctors of Vita Park Eye Associates have won six out of six times for WBEV, both writing and singing the seasonal jingles.
