Brantner Sentence Based On Laws At Time of 1990 Murder

(Waupun) Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney says it was heart-breaking to hear Diane Beck say that she had just about given up on believing that she would see the man who murdered her daughter brought to justice. But on Friday, Dennis Brantner pled to a Second Degree Reckless Homicide charge in the murder of Berit Beck. The body of the 18-year-old Sturtevant woman was found near Waupun in 1990. Meanwhile, Brantner will have to be sentenced according to the laws of that time. Under the 1990 law, the penalty for that crime was ten years in prison and up to a $10-thousand dollar fine. Toney says under truth-in-sentencing, the 64-year-old would only be required to serve two-thirds of that time. Brantner will be sentenced on March 1st.
