(Beaver Dam) Area residents are being asked to donate blood this summer. Officials with the BloodCenter of Wisconsin say blood donations tend to decrease in the summer months due to summer vacations and additional family commitments. They add the season tends to bring higher numbers of accidents and emergency situations, making the need for live-saving O negative blood even more important. They is a blood drive planned for this Thursday from 1pm to 6pm at Good Shepard Lutheran Church in Beaver Dam. Those 17 or older, in good health and meets eligibility requirements are encouraged to donate. Parental consent is required for 16-year-olds to donate blood and donors should bring a photo ID that includes their date of birth. Appointments are preferred but walk-ins are welcomed. To schedule an appointment call 877-BE-A-HERO (877-232-4376) or visit www.versiti.org/bcw. All attempting donors will receive one complimentary ticket to the Wisconsin State Fair.
