Beaver Dam School Construction Schedule Updated

5/11/17 – The Beaver Dam School Board received an update this week on the construction schedule for work districtwide related to the referendum approved in the fall. Design work for this summer’s projects are complete and the district is in the process of bidding. Discussions are being held for year two of the plan and how the components of the project will be phased in. Four elementary schools will see work completed this summer to improve the security at their front entrance. Jefferson, Lincoln, South Beaver Dam and Wilson all have similar layouts and will addressed over the summer. Washington Elementary is more complicated because the office will be moved. That work will be done next summer along with Prairie View Elementary and the Middle School which officials say is more complicated that other campuses because the front of the buildings need to be redesigned. Superintendent Steve Vessey says the high school designs have some minor changes in the floor plan from the preliminary blue prints. There were also some changes made for cost control. The bids for concrete came in well above projections and district officials learned that it was due to the use of colored cements. Most of the colored cement was removed and that portion of was re-bid at a much more reasonable price. There will still be colored cement around the main entrance. Groundbreaking for the high school will be in the circle drive off Gould Street on May 24 at 4pm.
